The Warsaw Tigers competed in the highly competitive Zionsville Invitational on Saturday, taking on some of the top programs in the state in what proved to be the toughest test of the season so far. With many well-established teams participating in this inaugural year of IHSAA-sanctioned boys volleyball, the Tigers held their own across four matches, showing grit and growth throughout the day. Warsaw opened the tournament in Pool A against a strong Noblesville squad. Despite being in the match throughout, the Tigers dropped the opener 25-16, 25-15. Match two brought another challenge in Lafayette Jeff, where Warsaw again showed moments of strong play but fell by identical scores of 25-16, 25-15. The Tigers regrouped in Pool B, where they bounced back with a dominant performance over Kokomo, winning in straight sets 25-15, 25-15. In their final match of the day, Warsaw took Greenwood Christian to three sets in a tightly contested battle. The Tigers claimed the first set 25-22, but dropped the next two 20-25, 9-15 in a match that showed their fight and ability to compete with anyone. Though the record on the day was 1-3, the Tigers were competitive in every match and gained valuable experience against top-tier programs—an important milestone for a program in its first IHSAA season. Statistical leaders for the Tigers included Andy Vass, who anchored the offense with 61 assists and added 20 digs. Fin Bailey was a standout on both ends, tallying 19 digs, 4 blocks, 13 kills, and 6 aces. Miles Rager was a force at the net with 26 kills and an impressive 20 blocks, while also contributing 7 digs. Logan Carl added 12 digs, 6 kills, 3 aces, and 7 blocks. Deniel Ruzza chipped in 14 digs, 3 blocks, and 6 kills. Levi Brath tallied 11 kills and 5 blocks, and Silas Hill (7 digs) and Nolan Haussmann (6 kills) both provided key contributions. With the experience gained and a current record of 6-5, the Tigers look ahead to a road match against Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger on Tuesday. Warsaw continues to improve each match, proving they belong among the state’s best in their inaugural IHSAA campaign.
