The Lady Tigers had a full day of racing on Saturday as the varsity team headed south to the Flashrock Invitational at Northview Church in Carmel, IN and the junior varsity squad competed at the West Noble Invite. At Flashrock the girls placed a strong 8th place with senior Sammi Rastrelli leading the way in a new personal record of 18:19 and placing 10th. Freshman Dani Rastrelli placed 18th with a new personal record of 19:00. Other major highlights were junior Savannah Purdy racing to a strong new personal record of 21:01 and seniors Eden Metz and Hannah Fisher continuing to help lead the middle of our top 7 with strong senior experience and consistent times. Sophomore Katie Robertson and junior Stephanie Malagon are continually seeing their hard work pay off as they rounded out our top 7 for the morning. Head Coach Jason Fleming states that, “Seeing Sammi and Dani approach breaking the 18 and 19 minute marks is huge for the front of our pack. They attack the beginning of the race and they don’t let up until the end and that energy is contagious. They have the fitness and we believe with fast races those times will continually drop. As we continue to train through these long weeks in September I was very impressed today with our packs and the way the girls are consistently attacking the beginning of each race and using the middle of the race as an opportunity to advance positions to help the team score. That tactical racing is what we will need come October and November and I am encouraged to see our girls putting those skills into practice in late September. We believe our daily consistency will continue to lead to improvements and smart racing. We are excited about the direction we are headed as the girls are continually improving their fitness. Consistency is key and the girls are beginning to see that pay off in big moments all across the board.” At the West Noble Invite highlights were seniors Airyana Bradley and Bronwyn Poch both having breakout races this morning with season best times. Junior Grace Landon also ran a season best today. Assistant Coach Nate Howett says, “We could not be more excited to see them continually fight day in and day out and see those times get quicker. We have a special group of seniors and they are seeing those hard training miles start to pay off and I am very proud of them.” The Lady Tigers will be back racing next Saturday, September 27th at the New Haven Classic at 9:00am.
