Warsaw's cross country teams competed at the Marion Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan Saturday, and it was a historic day for Tiger Senior Jackson Gackenheimer. Gackenheimer etched his name into program history by setting the school record with a time of 14:59.6--shattering the previous school record of 15:2 set in 2014 by Ellis Coon on the same course. Gackenheimer also became the first Tiger to ever break the 15:00 mark in a XC race. He finished 2nd overall, trailing only Noah Bontrager, the reigning state champion in the 1600m and 3200m, and the New Balance Nationals 5000m champion. It was only his second race of the fall. “Jackson hasn’t done a lot of workouts," Head Coach Matt Campbell explained, "but his consistency and the small amount of reps he has done told us he was ready to chase sub-15. We held him out of the first NLC Super Dual to give him this opportunity, and he knocked it out of the park. The strategy was simple—hang with Noah as long as possible. To run 14:59 in only his second race of the season shows he’s building confidence and racing fitness.”
