The Warsaw Unified Flag Football team turned in a thrilling performance under the lights at Fisher Field, battling not just the Manchester Squires but also a steady drizzle in a 38-26 win. The Tiger runners showcased grit and agility, dodging defenders and rain drops alike. From the opening snap, Warsaw’s energy was evident as the team fed off the home crowd. The star of the night was Yohannes Schmitt, who put on a two-way clinic by scoring three touchdowns and coming up with two timely interceptions that completely shifted the momentum in favor of Warsaw. Schmitt’s big plays set the tone, but the Tigers showed balance throughout the lineup. In the second half, Mason Anderson powered right up the middle of the Squire defense for a bruising touchdown run, followed by Nathan Nette’s hard-fought two-point conversion that sealed the win and left Manchester struggling to respond. On the outside, Ben "King Shark" Slabach delivered highlight-reel moments with two incredible receptions, making both grabs despite being completely blanketed by Squire defenders. When asked about his performance Slabach said, "The King has spoken." Lilly Jarrett anchored the run game from the center position, providing stability and toughness, while also wreaking havoc on defense with relentless pressure that forced Manchester’s quarterbacks into costly mistakes. Meanwhile, Kelsey Wrenn stepped up in brilliant fashion at quarterback, delivering a poised performance. With the victory, Warsaw moves to 1-1 on the season. They’ll return to Fisher Field next Monday at 6:30 p.m. to take on South Bend Adams in what promises to be another exciting matchup.
