Warsaw improved to 8-0 on the season with a breath-taking 37-29 win at Concord Friday night. The Tigers built a 21-0 lead in the first half on a 2-yard touchdown run by Michael Schenck, a 27-yard pass from Mark Haynes to Micah Kohler and a blocked punt returned by Grady Nelson 42 yards for a score. Concord scored on the next possession, and then scored twice more in the final 1:07 of the half to cut Warsaw's lead to 28-21. Concord got the opening kickoff of the third quarter, but threw a backward pass on the first play which rolled out of the back of the endzone for a safety to make the score 30-21. After the free kick, Warsaw took the ball at their own 46 yard line and scored again--this time on a 35-yard pass from Haynes to Nelson to up the Tigers' lead to 16. Concord would score again, go for 2 and make it, and then get the ball back after a third Warsaw turnover. But with the Minutemen driving deep in Tiger territory, Nelson read a screen pass, leaped as high as he could, and pulled it in to give Warsaw the ball back with 4:05 to play. Warsaw ran out the clock to move their record to 8-0, 6-0 in NLC play, and set up a de facto conference championship game at unbeaten Northridge Friday night at 7pm.
