The Warsaw Tigers came away with a hard-fought 45-31 victory over the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings in a game that was much closer early than the final score indicated. Warsaw came out with good energy, but the Tigers were unable to capitalize on several passes into the end zone that could have put the game away early. Those missed opportunities allowed Tippecanoe Valley to stay within striking distance and keep the pressure on Warsaw. Leading the way for the Tigers was Yohannes Schmitt, who once again showed why he is such a dangerous dual-threat offensive player. Schmitt made an impact both through the air and on the ground, running for and throwing multiple touchdowns throughout the night. Bayleigh Sleeth and Timmy Yeager also found the end zone through the air with receiving touchdowns. As the game progressed, Warsaw’s offense began to find its rhythm and create separation from the Vikings. Nathen Nette ran the distance for a touchdown in the late stages of the second half that seemed to put the game on ice. Nette made it look easy as he carved a path through the Valley defense for six points. Nette's touchdown was followed up by a Mason Anderson six yard run for the extra point and a massive endzone celebration. The Tigers’ defense also turned in a number of strong performances, with Brady James, Makayla Riley, Lillie Jarrett, Garrett Davis, Caelin Swineheart and Anna Seewald all making important plays throughout the game. Autumn Columbia stepped in at the center position throughout the game and did an excellent job helping keep the Warsaw offense moving. The Tigers showed great composure after the early missed opportunities and continued to battle until they were able to pull away. Tippecanoe Valley continued to compete hard, but Warsaw’s playmaking on both sides of the ball ultimately proved to be the difference. After the game, Coach Bricker reflected on what has made this group so special, “I've loved coaching this team. We have such high character kids in this program. They compete hard, love each other well, and are very coach-able. Being a part of this program will change your life for the better because of the relationships. It's been a very special group. I am so thankful for these kids.”
