Girls Rugby Gets Much-Needed Win Over Zionzville

The Warsaw girls rugby side played their first regular season game since late March on Saturday and picked up a 27-14 win over Zionsville at the WCHS pitch. The Tigers took the lead early in the first half when Jazmine Frush crashed over the try line from close range. The conversion kick was successful from Luciana Viera giving Warsaw a 7 point lead. Zionsville came back soon after and scored a converted try to tie the game at 7 each. Warsaw pressed hard for the next few minutes of the half. With Luiciana Veria scoring two unconverted tries to take the Tigers into a 17 point to 7 lead at half time. Almost immediately after the start of the second half, Sophia Jimenez of the Lady Tigers made a 60 yard break to score under the posts. The conversion kick by Viera took Warsaw out to 24-7 lead. Later in the second half, after a considerable length of tenacious goal line defense by Warsaw, the Lady Tigers conceded a penalty try bringing the score to 24-14. With about 10:00 left to play, the Lady Tigers pushed Zionsville back into their half and earned a penalty kick which Viera converted taking the final score to Tigers 27 Zionsville 14. The Tigers play Fort Wayne away on Wednesday.
