The varsity baseball team was triumphant over Wawasee 6-1 Monday at Tiger Field. Warsaw got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on a run-scoring double by Logan Kim and a Grady Nelson ground out. The Tigers added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning when Kael Miller hit a sacrifice fly and Brody Heady grounded out, each scoring one run. On the mound, the three Tiger pitchers combined on a one-hitter. Rogan Bailey earned the win for Warsaw, surrendering no hits or runs over three innings, striking out four and walking two. Mason O'Malley threw three innings of shutout ball for Warsaw relief. He also didn’t allow a hit while fanning five. Ben Zartman pitched the final inning for the home team. Kim and Bailey were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Tigers. Kim, Bailey, Nelson, and Miller each drove in one run. The Tigers ran wild on the base paths, collecting 11 stolen bases for the game. Next up for Warsaw Varsity Tigers is a game at Goshen on Wednesday. That game will be broadcast on Sports Michiana. The junior varsity also beat Wawasee 11-0, with freshman Andrew Shaw pitching a 5-inning no-hitter for Warsaw. The box scores for both games are attached.
