Warsaw opened their season with an enthralling match against Marian, falling 24-14 on their home pitch at WCHS on Senior Night. Warsaw started strong, creating pressure inside the Marion 22 meter line, but were unable to convert to a Try. Midway through the first half Marian broke free and crossed the line for the opening score of the game. This was followed soon after having won a Warsaw Lineout to cross for a second Try. Warsaw just couldn’t convert inside the opposition 22 and got turned over in the ruck. Marian scored a third Try before the break to leave an uphill challenge for Warsaw. The second half showed great determination from Warsaw, with Andrew Contreras the driving force behind Warsaw attacks. Warsaw tackled valiantly and penetrating runs forward from Luis Muniz Bermudez and Sean Smith gave momentum to the team. Muniz Bermudez got the opening Try for Warsaw and Sean Smith scored the conversion. Luis added a second Try shortly after and Sean Smith scored another conversion. With the clock running down, Warsaw pressed for another Try, however a penalty near the 22 lost possession for Warsaw and time ran out.
