St. Joe scored in their half of the seventh to stun the Tigers in their season opener 11-10 in South Bend Monday night. The Huskies were down 10-8 in the bottom of the seventh inning when an error scored three runs. Warsaw Varsity Tigers got on the board in the first inning after Grady Nelson doubled, scoring one run. After St. Joe tied the game at one in the bottom of the second, the Tigers re-took the lead in the top of the third on a Kael Miller single, then added four in the fourth and another in the three more in the 6th to lead 9-1. The Huskies started their comeback with 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning, then won the game with six runs in the 7th without the benefit of a hit. Mark Haynes started the game on the mound for the Tigers, giving up one hit and one unearned run over four innings, striking out six and walking three. But 9 walked batters and three errors were the Tigers undoing, and left them 0-1 on the season. Warsaw Varsity Tigers collected 16 hits in the game. Logan Kim led Warsaw with five hits in five at bats. Mason O'Malley, Rogan Bailey, and Spencer Love each collected multiple hits. St. Joe also won the JV game 9-6. Box scores from both games are attached.
