Warsaw hosted Coach Zach Dock and his Churubusco Eagles squads for a very early season outdoor meet Monday at the Tiger Athletic Complex. "With unseasonably warm temperatures," commented coach Scott Erba, "this was a unique meet format focusing on getting early results to build upon." All five field events were scheduled (Shot Put, Discus, Pole Vault, Long Jump and High Jump), but on the track, only the 100/110 Hurdles, 100m Dash, 1600m Run, and 400m Dash were contested. This allowed for a greater focus on individual efforts, less racing volume, and less confusion compared to regular meets with a full slate of events. On the breezy night, there were multiple highlights both on and off the track. Sprint results were especially impressive as there was a strong headwind throughout the night.: -Zander Bail (110H) won in an impressive 15.46, over a 0.5 second Personal Best (PB) -Tucker Reed (100m) won the event almost setting a new PB in 11.53 and also won Pole Vault with a 13’ 6” clearance -Hudsen Dirck (100m) finished runner up while nearly setting a new PB in 11.82 -Eli Swinehart won his first HS race in taking the 1600m in a fine effort of 4:48.36 -Michael Schenck (400m) led from start to finish in a new PB of 53.51 -Quinton Wilson (Discus) set a new PB of 137’ 6” en route a 1st place finish -Ethan Rivich continues to shine in Shot Put and threw another PD of 47’ 5.5” -Miles Rager won his first High Jump event by clearing 5’ 10” -Ethan Sinclair leaped to a new PB in Long Jump by clearing 20’ 10” -Cooper Hummich missed the entire season last year and has come back stronger and more consistent, clearing 13’ 6” again to tie his PB. “I am really impressed with how our guys handled their first outdoor meet of the season," Erba continued. "From following instructions, to preparing and competing during the night, to showing great sportsmanship. We had a lot of eye-opening experiences all over the facility, for example having four long jumpers clear 20’ in the same meet. I have not seen that in all my years being at Warsaw. We also had some great efforts from our rookies and veterans that gives us a depth and a different perspective on the season. I appreciate all the help we got tonight to run this meet for our athletes, and especially thank Coach Dock for being willing to try for an early March event." "The Tigers are a mix of seasoned veterans and fresh faces," Erba Explained. "We will see how they progress into the NLC and Championship seasons. Right now, our outlook is good.”
