Boys Swimming & Diving Wins NLC For First Time in 28 Years; Parrott Breaks Three Diving Records

The Warsaw Boys Swimming & Diving team got on the team bus and came home from the Northern Lakes Conference meet at Concord Saturday, and for the first time in almost three decades, the championship trophy got on the bus and came home with them. The Tigers' 430 team points edge out rival Wawasee, who finished with 424. After the regular season, the Warriors were 7-0 and Warsaw 6-1, so to earn a share of the title the Tigers would have to win the NLC meet. The last time Warsaw won conference was 1998. Coach Anthony DeBrota was in the 2nd grade. "I was 9 years old," DeBrota says. "I was still playing Pokemon on the Game Boy color." Needless to say, he was proud of his team. "The boys performed the best I could have ever imagined or asked of them," he said afterward. "The results are indicative of that." 1st place finishers include: 200 Medley Relay (Josh Warner, Brady James, Caelin Swinehart, Ethan Farrar) Diving (Ian Parrot) 200 Freestyle Relay (Farrar, James, Jonah Potter, Caelin Swinehart) 2nd and 3rd place finishes The 50 free saw Farrar snag 2nd. The 100 free saw Caelin Swinehart snag 2nd with Farrar finishing 3rd. The 200 Individual Medley saw Caelin also finish 2nd, with Brady James getting 3rd. The 500 Freestyle had Jonah Potter with a 3rd place finish The 100 Breaststroke with Brady James finishing 2rd. The 100 Butterfly with Josh Warner taking 2nd. Skyler Kretsch got 2nd in diving. To round it out, 10 top 10 finishes in WCHS history! 200 Medley Relay (8th) 200 Individual Medley (Swinehart-4th) 50 Freestyle (Farrar-4th) 11 Dive (Ian Parrott-1st...SCHOOL RECORD...MEET and POOL RECORD) 11 Dive (Skyler Kretsch- 10th) 100 Butterfly (Josh Warner-4th) 100 Freestyle (Swinehart-4th) 100 Freestyle (Farrar-5th) 200 Freestyle Relay (4th) 100 Breaststroke (Brady James-6th) DeBrota was named NLC Coach of the Year.
