The Warsaw Wrestling team picked up a huge win over NLC power Mishawaka on Thursday night. The Tigers got bonus points in all 8 of the head to head wins to earn a 44-32 victory. The Cavemen picked up the first points of the night with a pin at 175 pounds. Liam Smith got the Tigers on the board with a 15-5 win by major decision in the 190 pound match. Aydin Cook followed up with a win by pin in the first period at 215 pounds. The Tigers would never trail again from that point. Owen Corbin picked up another quick win by pin at 285 to extend the lead to 16-6. The Tigers got another couple of pins from the freshman duo of Tristan Wood at 106, and Ivahn Martinez at 113 to go up 28-6. Mishawaka answered with a pin at 120, but Gabe Veit rallied back with a pin at 126. The two teams traded wins again as Mishawaka got a pin at 132, but KC Smith answered with a Tiger pin at 138. With the score sitting at 40-18, the Tigers held off some tough wrestling by the Cavemen and saved bonus points to secure the team win. In the final bout of the evening, Enrique Silva put up a 9-1 win by major decision at 165. In a unique setup to the night with concerns over weather conditions, the JV Tigers competed at the same time in nine matches. Warsaw picked up wins in 5 of those contests- each by pin. JV winners were Jivan Gooden, Clayton Dias, Walker Perry, Cam Bause, and Colten Beeler. The Tigers record moves to 10-3 overall and 4-3 as they wrap up the duals portion of the conference schedule. Warsaw will be back in action on Tuesday as the boys and girls host Rochester for a midday matchup.
